H.R. 1 Tax Benefits Explained

For the past two decades, Democrats have maintained complete control over Oregon’s government. Consequently, every tax policy, regulatory policy, and spending decision has been advocated for and approved by Democratic lawmakers. Republicans have expressed objections and provided reasonable alternatives, but such efforts have been ignored due to Democrats’ control over all aspects of state government.

HOW TO MAKE OREGON MORE AFFORDABLE

Elect Republicans. Republicans will prioritize Oregonians over public unions and special interest groups. Two ways Republicans will address the Oregon affordability crisis and make the state more affordable include:

1. Lower Taxes

Republicans will lower taxes. This is the most expedient and effective way to make Oregon more affordable. Lower taxes withheld from your paycheck translates to increased money in your bank account. In addition, lower taxes on businesses will lead to greater business success and lower prices for you and your family.

2. Lessen Regulations

Republicans will eliminate unnecessary business regulations, creating an environment where companies can thrive. This translates into more opportunities for workers, higher wages, and better benefits.

EDUCATION: FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CLASS TO THE TOP

It is no secret that Oregon's public education system has fallen to the bottom of the class in national rankings. This decline has slowly happened over the past 20 years but accelerated recently with an emphasis on DEI and Social-Emotional learning over tried and true educational principles focusing on reading, writing, math, science, and history.

One of the biggest problems with public education is the public unions. Their control of Democrat lawmakers and therefore public education policies has been extremely harmful. This monopoly of labor on top of a monopoly of educational services is a double-wammy for any kind of systematic reform. Their solutions are always one-size-fits-all, and that size is determined by the public unions, not parents.

Putting Republicans in charge of the legislature ensures that once again, parents will have the final say in how their children are taught. Republicans will re-institute statewide standards that were eliminated by Democrats in 2021. Republicans will open enrollment, letting schools compete with each other for students. Republicans will enable school choice policies, broadening the opportunities for quality education. None of this will cost taxpayers more money. In fact, it may actually save money, contributing to an overall Republican education reform.

ELIMINATE HOMELESSNESS

Measure 110 was an experiment that made illicit drug usage no longer a criminal offense. The results were a disaster, as homelessness exploded onto street corners of every community in Oregon.

Republicans will unwind the harmful policies of Measure 110 and ensure treatment with accountability. Some estimates show that 95% of those who are homeless are addicted to drugs. Ending the drugs-for-all policies that Democrats have been unwilling to unwind will help eliminate homelessness and make a major difference on every street corner of our state.

PROTECTING THE 1ST & 2ND AMENDMENTS, LIFE AND MORE

Being a Republican is about embracing the founding values that made our nation the greatest in the world. Admittedly, Oregon has wandered far off that path.

Central to these values is ensuring the ability to speak and worship freely without government retaliation and the right to bear arms to protect ourselves. Personal responsibility is key to liberty and independent living. Just as important is protecting the sanctity and value of every human being's life.
